Bob Holmes' 24" F/4.5 Research Telescope

This small page is maintained by me (Mike Lockwood) as part of my web site.

Recently Bob Holmes decided to replace his 16" SCT with the largest (heaviest) telescope that he could put on his Paramount.  That turned out to be a 24" F/4.5 telescope with a 1.625"-thick Pyrex mirror.

I ground, polished and figured the mirror from a generated blank in early 2007.

The telescope is a prime-focus instrument, with a CCD camera mounted on the support spider at the upper end of the tube.  It currently cannot be used visually.  First light was in mid-April 2007.

Here are a few images of the telescope (photos by Bob Holmes).
